Thursday evening sailing

The Thursday evening sailing sessions are held at the Segelschule Hofbauer. This year’s season starts at the 25 April at 17:30 for being on the water at 18:00. Hofbauer kindly allow us to use the training room as a clubroom for these evenings and the regattas we organize at the Alte Donau. You can find the training room to the right of the bar in the Ufertaverne.

The fee is Euro 5,- per person for one hour of sailing. A locker costs Euro 1,-. A changing room is available. You can also change in the clubroom and leave your gear. The clubroom is locked while we are sailing.

Committee members (or others) are needed to organize the Thursday evening sessions, collect money, assign pairs to sail and pay for the boats.
Guests can join.

The VISC Thursday Race Series is held as of 16th May 2019 and every second Thursday throughout the season at Segelschule Hofbauer. If weather does not allow the race to be held, it will not be moved to the next week. Depending on the wind, usually one race will be held in Pirate boats, starting at about 18:15. Entrants for the race must be in the small training room at Hofbauer by 17:30 at the latest for the briefing and on the water before the five minute signal. Each boat must contain at least one club member.

The race will consist of a single circuit of the buoys on the Alte Donau (more if the wind is very strong), with a single race each time. Entries will consist of two people per boat, helm and crew, with both helm and crew receiving the same points. Guests can sail in the races, but only club members will receive points. Scoring will be by the low point system (one point for your position in the race) and at the end of the season half the number of races sailed plus one will count towards the Thursday Race Series (eg: 7 or 8 races sailed, 5 to count). The Thursday Race Series result will count towards the club’s annual championship. The minimum number of entries for a race to take place is three.

Normal Alte Donau rules apply. Infractions of the rules can be exonerated by a 360 penalty except collisions resulting in damage or injury, when both boats will be disqualified (DSQ, maximum points = number of boats in race plus one).

Please note, if you capsize, Hofbauer will charge a recovery fee of €50, which the skipper and crew of the boat will have to pay themselves.
