Big Boat Crewing Experience

Sailing on big boats or yachts and crewing together is a great experience to learn how to sail, because it allows you to work as a team and understand the importance of communication and coordination.

By participating in the club’s sailing and crewing activities, you can learn how to navigate, handle sails, and steer the boat safely and effectively. Additionally, you will meet like-minded people and make new friends and being on a larger boat provides a more immersive and hands-on learning experience, as you can observe and learn from more experienced skippers and other sailors.

Overall, sailing on big boats with a crew is a valuable opportunity to develop your sailing skills in a supportive and collaborative environment. You can sign up with the VISC organisers on one the sponsored events and or training plans.

Adriatic and Spring Sailing Weeks

Adriatic Sailing Week

The Adriatic Sailing Week is the Vienna International Sailing Club’s annual end of season flotilla in Croatia, organised by the experienced club’s committee. This “Sailing with Friends” event is the highlight of the VISC sailing calendar and each year brings new and experienced club members together for a week of fun and enjoyment.

We follow a well-established tradition of booking a fleet of charter boats in Croatia and getting the club’s qualified and experienced skippers to register to take part and to be responsibie for their boat and crew for the week. Each boat competes for the VISC Bob Pitt Memorial Award in a serious of sailing events governed by the ORC racing rules and the well-known club sailing instruction devised by Bob, Rule 11: ‘Don’t take it too seriously!’

By joining this sailing week, all members of the crew will gain the necessary sailing experience and knowledge along with the time onboard and miles needed to start training for the RYA’s Day Skipper sailing licence.

“Engaging in hands-on activities and enjoying each other’s company is an excellent way to develop and strengthen team relationships and learn new skills”.

Club Spring Sailing

The Spring Sailing Week is the Vienna International Sailing Club’s seasonal kick-off event flotilla in Greece, Croatia or Italy and is organised by the experienced club’s committee. This “Sailing with Friends” event is always in the VISC sailing calendar and each year brings new and experienced club members together for a week of fun and enjoyment.

We agree with the club members and qualified skippers a different sailing area each year and invite crews to register come together and reserve a boat for the week. By joining this sailing week, all members of the crew will gain the necessary sailing experience and knowledge along with the time onboard and miles needed to start training for the RYA’s Day Skipper sailing licence.

“Learning by doing and having fun is the best way to develop new skills”.
