Nomen est omen. The Vienna International Sailing Club unites people who are enthusiastic about sailing, with international background, in Vienna and the surrounding. The outcome is our motto: Sailing with friends.
The club was established in 1998 to promote sailing amongst the staff of the international organizations and missions. Membership is open to all staff of the VIC and other international organisations who hold a VIC grounds pass, members of missions and embassies, their dependants and invited guests.
The club arranges training in dinghy sailing (in English) in cooperation with the local sailing school, Hofbauer powered by Boats2Sail, leading to the Austrian BFA (A-Schein) certificate, recognized throughout Austria for the hiring of sailing dinghies. The club also assists members to obtain other qualifications, such as the RYA Day or Coastal Skipper, that enable the holder to obtain an International Certificate of Competence (ICC) recognized worldwide for chartering boats.
The club holds weekly sailing sessions on the Alte Donau at the Hofbauer Sailing School and arranges other sailing events in Austria and on the sea at various locations according to members’ demands (see the Programme).
The Vienna International Sailing Club is approved and adheres to the guidelines set by the Vienna International Centre Recreation Committee (VICREC). The annual report and financial statement are submitted to the VICREC. The financial statement is subject to audit. The financial statement relating to the period from September 2017 to August 2018 is attached below together with the annual report.
The club statues as amended at the AGM on 28 November 2019 are pending approval by VICREC:
An der Oberen Alten Donau 191,
This part is subject to change in 2020 as Segelschule Hofbauer is now Segelschule Hofbauer powered by Boats2Sail.
To be reviewed: The VISC has a close association with the Segelschule Hofbauer. The Thursday evening sailing sessions are held there and they also organize the training in English, both theory and practice, for the Austrian A-Schein qualification.
VISC members are entitled to a 10% discount at Hofbauer Segelschule for renting sail boats at any time.
The VISC also has a close association with Boats2Sail in Rust. Some of our regattas are organised by them and among others they offer training, lectures and a boat renting service.
VISC members are entitled to a 10% discount at Boats2Sail.
Membership is open to all staff of the VIC and of other international organisations who hold a VIC grounds pass, retirees, members of missions and embassies and their dependants. Others may join as affiliate members if sponsored by a full or associate member and are accepted by the committee.
Complete the membership2020 form, sign the waiver and send it to the Logkeeper along with a receipt for payment of the membership fee.
Be sure to put you name in the “Purpose of Payment” (Verwendungszweck) field if you pay on-line or at the bank (Zahlschein) so that your payment may be associated with your application.
